Vinted listing copy guide

Write for the buyer’s decision — not for word count.

A good clothing description removes uncertainty. Buyers need to know what the item is, what size/fit information you can support, its condition and anything the photos may not make obvious.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Use a compact structure: item + size, key material/style detail, measurements if useful, condition/flaws, then a simple note to check all photos.

Avoid made-up style claims, unrelated brand names and giant AI paragraphs. Accurate searchable fields and honest condition information are more useful than sales copy.

Do this in order

Use this five-line listing structure.

1

Name the item plainly

Brand + garment + useful style/model + labelled size. Put the strongest searchable facts first.

2

Add the deciding details

Material, fit/cut, era if supported, licensed graphic, features such as pockets or lining.

3

Give useful measurements

For clothing where fit varies, provide pit-to-pit/length or waist/inseam as appropriate and explain how measured.

4

State condition and flaws

Mention stains, holes, fading, cracking, repairs or missing parts clearly. Do not hide them in the last line.

5

End simply

Invite the buyer to check all images for condition and measurements; avoid unrelated hashtags and keyword lists.

Descriptions are for uncertainty, not decoration

Photos show a lot, but they may not show fabric weight, exact measurements, whether a zip works or whether a tiny mark is permanent. Use text to close those gaps.

Searchable facts belong in the proper fields too

Choose the correct category, brand, size and condition rather than trying to compensate with a paragraph of keywords. Vinted can hide listings with inaccurate or misleading details and unrelated/excessive hashtags.

AI can help edit — but you own the facts

A writing tool can shorten or structure your notes, but do not let it invent an era, fabric, style name or condition statement. The seller remains responsible for the listing being accurate.

Quick checklist

  • Plain searchable item name
  • Labelled size
  • Useful measurements
  • Material/features if known
  • Condition stated
  • Every flaw stated
  • No invented vintage/rare claims
  • No unrelated hashtags/brands
MyCost decision rule

If a sentence does not help a buyer find, fit, trust or assess the item, it probably does not need to be in the description.

FAQ
Do long Vinted descriptions sell better?

Not automatically. Useful, accurate information matters more than length. Make the key identity, fit and condition facts easy to scan.

Should I put lots of brand names in a Vinted description for search?

No. Vinted says unrelated brands and excessive/unrelated hashtags can cause listing problems. Describe the actual item.

Can I use AI to write my Vinted description?

You can use a writing tool to organise facts, but verify every claim and never let it invent product details or hide flaws.
